The Crossbowman’s Armor

A hunter may make a good ranger, but it takes much more than tracking skills and marksmanship to deserve that title. Rangers aren’t mere venators, they are true woodland warriors, trained in ambush tactics, reconnaissance, and camouflage. They don’t stalk predictable prey animals, but the most dangerous quarry there is: people, some of which are themselves trained killers and skilled fighters. While the bow provides many advantages, the crossbow often comes on top in the thick underbrush of the forest, allowing the ranger to lay low and motionless, carefully aiming for the perfect shot. It’s a weapon of patience and discipline, and it says a lot about the ranger who wields it.

This custom leather armor set was designed for a member of Bicolline’s Rangers guild. This asymmetric medieval fantasy armor imitates the color and texture of the forest, with java and timber dye applied on the leather, which also features sleek engravings on the helmet, greaves, pauldrons, and bracers that imitate the texture of wood grain.

This light armor allows great mobility and autonomy, with a fully adjustable breastplate and combat belt that closes on the front. Still, it offers near full body protection, with room to carry various medieval accessories useful in LARP, such as pouches, a combat knife, or a liquor flask for those cold nights by the campfire. The helmet’s leather visor also protects the eyes from enemies’ projectiles, a great addition to a crossbowman’s armor.

We also designed a practical green tunic to go under this armor set, which includes a gambeson finish on the elbows and shoulders.
