The Cursed Scarecrow

Late at night, when the fields are empty, Arlan still remembers his dreams of adventure. He recalls the songs that inspired him, which he hums despite everything, perched on his pedestal. It is tunes like these that keep him alive, despite his curse.

Arlan was once a brave adventurer, but his ambition was his only flaw. In a tavern in the Kingdom of Adervel, he had accepted a quest that seemed worthy of legends: to investigate a witch's lair... If only he had known that as soon as he entered it, he would be cursed forever, he would have refused the promised gold. His sword turned into a shovel, his armor into burlap clothing; even his skin turned into rough straw.

He lives in the witch's garden and protects her strange ingredients from the hungry beaks of crows. He sings sweet songs to them, welcoming the birds as his only friends and telling them about his dreams. One day, perhaps, an adventurer more cunning than he was will be able to lift this curse. Until then, he will remain the scarecrow of the swamp witch, condemned to protect what condemned him. His crows are now his friends, and his curse has become a bastion of hope for his dreams.

William, our craftsman, created this terrifying costume. He has been working in our leather, fabric, and metal production department since 2021. Originally designed for a character in a LARP, this costume now haunts the nights of Barovia. This costume is an excellent example of how several products available in the store can be slightly altered and enhanced with a few custom items to create a unique ensemble.

The scarecrow's appearance comes from, among other things, its latex mesh mask, embellished with hemp to sell the illusion of straw. A straw hat from the Sidéral company is also worn.

William wears a white shirt that he bloodstained, by Leonardo Carbone. The marauder's jacket is made of 2-3 oz leather, which adds dimension to the costume. William has enhanced simple pants with jute fabric scraps to create a visual link with different textures. He also wears Epic Armoury fingerless gloves, and chose comfortable leather boots from Leonardo Carbone. To maintain visual consistency, he uses a hemp rope as a belt, which enhances the creature's design.

William himself customized the simple and adventurer's pouches. An accessory holder is also slipped into the belt, and a leather bracelet encircles his calf.

This scarecrow may not look like it, but he carries weapons to defend himself. The sublime Nemesis shovel remains his primary weapon. William attaches it to his back with a polearm holder, which allows him to keep his hands free but still have access to his weapon at all times. He also has a Calimacil butcher's cleaver in a custom-made sheath, as well as a Calimacil throwing dagger in a personalized sheath near his boot.

Using his imagination, store-bought products, and custom leather goods, William can embody a cunning and dangerous creature.
