Poitiers Gambeson
Poitiers Gambeson
The Poitiers gambeson is a highly articulated padded jacket inspired by 14th-century military gear. Manufactured by Freyhand, this historical protective garment is distinguished by its removable sleeves secured with laces and its elegant cowhide leather reinforcement strips along the seams. Offering excellent freedom of movement—particularly in the arms for high-guard fencing—it is a top choice for LARP, whether worn alone as light armor or under chainmail and plate armor.
Legend
On the battlefields of the Hundred Years’ War and in the mercenary camps of Europe, flexibility and protection were key to survival. Elite fighters quickly adopted this type of padded jacket, reinforced with leather to withstand the wear and tear of heavy armor pieces. Modular and practical, it allowed soldiers to remove the sleeves during long marches or grueling days, while providing robust defense and essential comfort during sudden skirmishes.
