The Red King - Alyss

Inspired by Patrick Sénécal's twisted modern retelling of the classic tale of Alice in Wonderland, this Alyss set brings to life the Red Queen in a gender swap cosplay, geared with whips and crimson leather. This intricate multi-layered costume includes many custom made pieces of clothing and accessories.

The largest and most impressive piece of this set is certainty the long crimson leather coat, which is styled after an androgynous frock with heavy inspiration from the Matrix, mixing Renaissance and various modern styles. Heavily stitched and decorated with black hearts, diamonds, clovers, and spades, this patchwork coat is short on the front and long on the back. Its sleeves are lined with twirled white patterned fabric, contrasting with the vibrant red of the outer layer. The coat also includes pockets for practicality as well as complexity.

Underneath this large piece, we sewed a fancy rock glam styled vest made of black fabric with white borders. Lined in red, the vest is decorated with vinyl playing card prints on a diamond checked background, and also includes pockets. Combined with a ruffled black shirt with lacing enhanced sleeves and a touch of white, this underlayer has nothing to envy to the coat, and makes the outfit properly gorgeous even without the leather frock.

In addition to these clothes, we also made disco styled stripped pants, alternating black and white for a stunning look. The pants are made to support a belt, which was custom made for this project using black leather and a stylish hearth shaped buckle with red stones. The belt isn't simply decorative, for it holds the leather scabbards used to carry the character's pair of whips.
