Description
The rectangular scutum shield is the most iconic piece of equipment of the Roman legionary. This large semi-cylindrical shield was used by Rome's heavy infantry to create unbreakable formations, protecting the soldier from the chin to the knees, and allowing the legionary to hide behind impressive shield walls when using the famous testudo formation. Best used in pair with a short sword such as the roman gladius, or possibly a spear or javelins, the scutum shield is a defensive bulwark before anything. With its center grip and light weight, this historical reproduction made of latex is safe for LARP combat and surprisingly nimble in the hand. It's the perfect choice for any Roman inspired character, from simple foot soldiers to centurions.
