The Jade Protectorate's army was outmatched in number, as well as equipment and troop quality. They had nomad mercenary riders, light infantry militias, and only a handful of professional soldiers at their disposal. By all accounts, they stood no fighting chance in the field, and the Purple Legion they were facing grew confident and bold, trusting in their heavily armored footmen to win the day. Placing the rowdy and lightly geared levy troops in the middle of the formation had created an obvious weak spot in the Protectorate's lines, a crack in the armor that could be exploited to break their ranks and ensure a quick victory to the overwhelming forces of the Purple Legion. It was no surprise that this is where they concentrated their attack. It was exactly what the Jade's Strategist had been hoping for.

As the Legion's iron-clad soldiers clashed against Jade's lines, the center slowly gave ground, backing off as they were pushed by the much stronger soldiers facing them. What the Purple Legion didn't know was that the quick-footed militias holding the middle had been instructed to do so, to exaggerate their weakness so the Legion would commit their force there. To embolden the Legion even more with a false sense of invincibility, the nomad riders retreated from the battlefield as if they were fleeing, only to make a wide turn and slowly maneuver around the enemy for a rear charge. Before long, the Purple Legion was pushing so deep in the centerline that they were essentially getting themselves flanked, and suddenly, the seemingly broken militia they had been pushing back stood firmly and fought teeth and nail, closing the U-shaped trap, with most of the enemies now caught between jaws of spears and swords. Realizing too late they had been lured into a terrible engagement, the Purple Legion's officers tried to back away and reform their lines, but this is when the nomad riders returned and charged them forces in the rear, closing the trap and creating a perfect encirclement despite the Protectorate's numerical disadvantage.

The battle was won in that instant, and the Strategist's masterful tactics had won him a place in military history. He had personally been fighting in the center with his honor guard, hiding among the levy troops and keeping their morale high for their crucial role in this battle. Accounts say that his long curved dao sword took the life of the Purple commander in single combat, personally sealing the fate of the one so blinded by pride he fell for this well-crafted ruse.
